History of use

Made during the Early Dynastic period, perhaps I or II Dynasty? Decorated vases were made by men. This vase does not stand on its own, therefore may be a votive vessel.

Narrative

Presented to Aleck Bourne (Mrs. Ostry's grandfather) in 1915 by Sir F. Petrie. Said to be from his archaeological work in Eygpt.

Physical description

Conical shaped, red clay vase with flat, circular bottom and rounded lipped opening. There is a scalloped line of decoration running horizontal from the top. Smooth surface below this line, rough and porous above it.
