Gomes, David (1936 - )

David da Silva Gomes is a folk artist in Braga, Portugal. In 1974, at the end of nearly 50 years of dictatorship Gomes said he finally felt free to create whatever he wanted. Instead of making medieval and baroque-style furniture, which he had previously produced with his father, he chose to carve saints, small altars, diverse assemblages and decorative works.
