Wade, Jennifer Prosser

Biography

Teacher, writer, human rights activist Jennifer Prosser Wade was born in India, where she spent the first decade of her life. Relocating to New Brunswick, she attended university in Fredericton, graduating in 1958. She lived in Pakistan during the years 1968-1971. Her involvement in human rights issues began in the 60’s while studying in England, continued in the US, where she worked for the Civil Rights Movement, and was sustained throughout her life in New York, Pakistan, Halifax and Vancouver. She is a recipient of the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, the BC Civil Liberties Reg Robson Award, the Renate Shearer Human Rights Award, the Order of BC, and an Honorary Doctor of Letters from the University of New Brunswick for international justice work.
