Iconographic meaning
When the tiles evolved from the original bowl shape, their apertures were covered over, providing a surface for decoration. Here, a nobleman on a horse is hunting with falcon or hawk.

Square green earthenware stove tile, relief framed scene of man on a horse, left profile, with his head turned backwards looking at the falcon on his left arm. Unglazed back and deep sides.
