History of use

This basket was used as a comb holder according to basket makers from Mount Currie.
A gradual change is seen in Salish basketry traditions from the 1820's to the 1940's with the decline of utilitarian basket making and the increase in decorated baskets, made for sale.

Physical description

Wall hanging style container with a rectangular bottom and back wall rising to a triangular shape with a small loop for hanging at the top. Slat bottom and sides. Imbricated design of alternating red and black cross motifs in horizontal rows.
