Iconographic meaning
The figure on this tile mould is the Woman of the Apocalypse or who appears in the Book of Revelation. She has also been identified as the Woman of Revelation, Mary, or Israel or the church. Revelation 12:1–2: “And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.” All these symbols are present on this mould; she stands on a crescent moon surrounded by a burst of sunrays, and two angels hold the crown above her head.
