History of use

The date-jime is used as a waist belt for the nagajuban, or under-kimono.

Narrative

Kimono set acquired by donor in 1970, while she was involved with missionaries in the village of Ueda; she wore the kimono for special cermemonies while residing in Japan.

Physical description

Belt for a woman's under-kimono. Made of a foam-like beige material over which is stitched a paper-like fabric with pink floral pattern. A square velcro patch is sewn on at one end.
