Narrative
One of eight panels painted by Ben (Blackie) Dick in 1965 for the bighouse in Alert Bay. In 1997 there was a fire in the bighouse; the panels were salvaged after the fire. The donor purchased this panel in 2010 from the Hummingbird Gallery, near Vancouver.
Physical description
Large painting on plywood panel. Sisiutl dance screen motif. Central sun with sisiutls inside, killer whales above and below, gold-coloured background. Blackened (fire damage) across upper section. Signed on lower left, front "Blackie Dick". Back is unpainted.
