Valmiki's Ramayana

A ninety-six page colour comic book titled 'VALMIKI'S RAMAYANA'. 'AMAR CHITRA KATHA DIGEST BUMPER ISSUE Vol. 10001'. Published in 1992 by H. G. Mirchandani, for India Book House Pvt. Ltd. and edited by Anant Pai with art done by Pratap Mulick. The work is about what is believed to be the first poetic Sanskrit work known as the Adikavya. The story is about King Dasharatha having to send his son, Rama, off for training with the sage Vishwamitra by slaying the Rakshasas. Rama tries to string the Great Bow of Shiva, weds Sita, and is sent to exile due to two boons his father had to grant to his third wife, Kaikeyi, who saved his life. The two boons are that her son, Bharata, is to be made the crown prince and Rama is to be exiled for fourteen years to the forest. King Dasharatha dies of heart break and Bharata finds Rama in the forest to say that he will place Rama's sandals on the throne as a sign that he will rule on Rama's behalf. The King of the Rakshasas, Ravana, abducts Sita and Rama goes with his brother, Lakshmana, in search of her while obtaining the friendship of Hanuman and the help of the vulture, Jatayu. In a battle, Rama kills Ravana and is reunited with Sita who undergoes a fire test to reveal her purity of heart so that Rama can accept her back. They return and Rama is crowned King of Ayodhya.
