Iconographic meaning
Portrays King David, legendary hero of the Old Testament who began life as a shepherd and is famous for slaying the Philistine giant Goliath of Gath with a simple slingshot. He ruled over Israel for forty years and is credited with the formation of a Jewish kingdom centred in Jerusalem. He is dressed in medieval garb with Rex David inscribed over his head.

Physical description
Rectangular earthenware stove tile with high relief framed scene of a man standing beneath a double white arch with brown columns. Inscription at arch reads "Rex. David". The man is wearing a short black robe and brown cloak. The tile is enclosed in a wooden frame.
