History of use
Until recently art did not play a central role in the life of the Inuit. Contemporary carving first emerged in response to a demand for souvenirs. The subject matter is usually traditional Inuit and the with which they are familiar.

Physical description
Man, bear, and dog (part b). Man faces polar bear. Dog carved parallel to bear (but has broken off base). Man has raised right arm with a hole carved through clenched fist indicating object formerly held, now missing. Inscription and Inuit syllabics carved on base.
