Tankard

About this object

History of use

This large unadorned jug is extremely rare and is probably the earliest example in the collection of Haban ware. The rich dense colour of the surface was produced by adding manganese dioxide to a lead glaze rather than a tin glaze. Its could have been made in TavĂkovice, the oldest Anabaptist workshop in Moravia, which was well known for its conservative decorations and its technological experiments that were carried out prior to the integration of faience into Anabaptist production.
