History of use

An outfit worn by a young woman before they are married, or at times of celebration.

Narrative

Owned by the donor's grandmother; possibly brought to Canada when she immigrated in 1924.

Physical description

Tightly gathered back skirt; small, plain triangular panels on either side of central gathered section. Waistband above gathered portion has dark blue embroidered border with designs done in yellow. Motifs consist of hourglass-like shapes, hexagons, and diamonds with slanted triangles underneath; plain line above band and zigzag underneath. Rest of skirt is undecorated; short ties on either side of waistband for securing.
