Spirit dancer portrait mask
Narrative
Said to have been collected by Donald MacKay while he was the Indian Commissioner for BC, 1937-1948.
Physical description
Mask with long slender nose and a pointed chin. Plain light brown face has circular cut out pupil eyes surrounded by a tapering oval with dark brows above. The nostrils are cut out. The blue-green mouth is inverted with the front teeth missing. A horizontal row of five vertical dark lines are across each cheek with a horizontal blue-green band going from the middle of each cheek across the nose. Four vertical blue-green lines go across each temple. Seven horizontal dark lines go down each lower side. more Border around the face is darkened. A pair of holes is at either side.
