Everyday wear. This style of woman's skirt would have been worn by the wife or daughter of an official, or a woman from a wealthy family, for a somewhat formal, or special, occassion.

Narrative

Sold through a consignment store in Vancouver, by a great-grandchild of the original owners.

Physical description

Skirt made of pleated black silk with an off-white waistband. Embroidered at the hemline with off-white thread. The skirt is made of four panels of vertical pleats with two columns of black silk buttons in groups of three on the back and front of the skirt. The waistband has four beltloops and four metal buttons, two of which fasten at the front of the skirt.
