History of use

This blouse is worn at festivals. The tradition of regionally distinctive dress is still a feature of some of the remote villages of highland Peru. The costumes are a mixture of Spanish influence with surviving indigenous aspects and materials.

Physical description

Small, long sleeved unbleached cotton shirt. Piped edge in place of collar. Neckline slit down to mid-centre of shirt. Stylized v-shape design in red and green below neck, and on either side of neckline. Front bottom of shirt longer than the back.
