Signed 榮紀 (Eiki). Part of the Miss Jessie M. Miller Collection. Miss Miller was a teaching evangelist for the Anglican Church of Canada.

Iconographic meaning

The Iris is a symbol of summer. The calligraphy translates as "flowering plants of the four seasons".

Physical description

Scrolled painting of iris flower, bud and leaves. Strip of light brown silk with cloud design on top and bottom. Border of green brocade with stylized flowers and swastika design. Calligraphy and chop signature in lower corner on left. Mounted on paper backed silk; black and white silk tie at top; two ribbons of silk with cloud design at top near tie. Wooden cylinder at bottom and half round one at top.
