Travellers

Physical description

Stonecut print depicting a traveller and his two dogs. The figure has a large backpack attached to him with a black strap across his chest. There are two bars protruding from this backpack, one of which has two pots dangling by their handles on either side of the traveller’s body. The traveller wears a hooded parka, pants with two layers of fringe and boots with a pattern made by intersecting diagonal lines. The posture of the traveller is hunched. Each of the dogs occupies one side of the image with the traveller in the middle. Both dogs are wearing packs which have a heart pattern on them and are laced in the middle. Also, both dogs have their tongues out. The teeth of the dog on the left are exposed but not as if it is snarling. Written in pencil along the bottom edge of the image: "Eskimo Western Arctic 1972 Travellers Aliknak 16/50 Holman." The artist’s signature is written in ink. There are also two embossed stamps in the lower right edge of the paper, one being the Holman stamp.
