Informal dress, nu ta kua, of a Han woman during the Ch'ing Dynasty. It looks like nu wai kua but shorter (outer gown).
Physical description
Black silk jacket with embroidery. The jacket has a round neck, wide sleeves and centre opening with brass frog closures. On the front are peony, butterfly, wave and rhinoceros horn motifs on black ground. On the back are peony, butterfly wave, chrysanthemum, orchid, swastika, coral and ruyi sceptre motifs on black ground. The sleeves have a gold cuff with butterfly, peony, swastika, scroll and floral motif. The inner lining is blue damask silk.
