Basket

This spruce-root cylindrical basket appears to be of Haida origin, but the collector (pre-1932) had tagged it as having been collected in Alert Bay. The basket may have been mislabelled by the collector, or it might have ended up in a Kwakwaka'wakw community through trade or intermarriage.

Basket woven with two strand twined weaving with mixed twined weaving (diagonal twilled design) along top of basket. Four bands of darker faded black dyed spruce. Top edge is missing several large sections.
