hut (Hat)

About this object

History of use

Costumes like this one are still worn for weddings, funerals and church festivals. The hat is worn forward on the head with the ribbons hooked together at the center back, and hanging loosely down the back. The round shape does not conform to the shape of the head; it sits on top of the head rather than fitting down over it. The style of the tassels differs from one region to another. The hat is said to be very old.
