History of use

This belt was worn on the man's costume on the top of pants. It is wrapped around the waist and tucked into itself.

Narrative

Purchased on June 25, 1978 at a booth outside of the Indian market. The booth was run by two young men, was located at the north entrance to Huaras. It was hand-woven by Pertolina Canto, who was born in Huaras.

Physical description

Hand-woven belt with a central yellow and white rectangular geometric design bordered on each side with a black and white chevron pattern with interludes of horizontal stripes. The end sections are loose creating a twisted, wool fringe.
