History of use

Pre-Columbian Costa Rica was part of the transitional zone between the traditions of Meso America and South America. Influences from both areas are evident with the most powerful and extensive coming from the north, particularly for the Pacific area. Possibly alligator motif on inside of this ring base fragment of a bowl or vessel.

Physical description

Ceramic ring base fragment and part of vessel or bowl bottom. Remnant of cream slip. Black line and dash pattern on bowl ? interior. Remnants of red-orange infill. Black band around ring base. Tan paste.
