Physical description

Vertically oriented Tigua painting depicting peasant life. The canvas of the painting is formed by a piece of skin stretched and nailed over a wooden frame. The sky serves as the background of the painting; it is painted with various shades of blue, white and orange. There are black and white birds flying in the sky. There is also a yellow and orange sun in the sky. Against the horizon there is a dark blue snow-capped mountain. Rolling green hills and tall green trees are visible in the distance. One of the closest hills has two grey huts with brown thatched roofs atop it. The land on the hill is broken into fields with different plants. The fields are various shades of green and blue. There is a brown path curving around the front of the hill from the right side of the image to the centre. A woman, an alpaca and a man are walking on the path. The man is near the centre of the image and his back is to the viewer. He wears a white wide-brimmed hat, red shawl, white satchel and brown pants. The alpaca walks behind the man on the path. It has a purple bundle harnessed to its body. Following the alpaca is the woman in a white wide-brimmed hat, pink shawl, black skirt and white satchel around her back. In front of the path, there is a green field with green plants with pink flowers. On the left side of the image, near the front, there is a stone walled building with a brown thatched roof. There is a group of four men and women in the foreground of the painting, in front of the house. One man is in the lower left corner with his back to the viewer. He is wearing a white wide-brimmed hat, red shawl and blue pants. He has a brown ceramic pot harnessed to his back with black cord. Right of the man with the backpack is another man with his back to the viewer. He is wearing a red shawl, blue shirt, white wide-brimmed hat and brown pants. He is feeding white thread over a cross beam in the roof of his house. The thread he is using comes from a large ball of thread in a brown wide-brimmed basket in front of him. There is a woman standing right of the man; she wears a pink shawl, white wide-brimmed hat, black skirt and a braid down her back that is wrapped in white fabric. She is holding a spool with white thread around it. Another woman stands on the right. She is wearing a red shawl, white wide-brimmed hat, blue skirt and a braid down her back that is wrapped in white fabric. There is a white satchel tied around her shoulders. A grey dog stands behind the women. Along the bottom edge of the image there is another patch of green grass and plants with pink flowers. The artist’s country and name are written in white paint in the front right corner of the painting.
