History of use
Metal edged carving tools replaced stone, shell and bone, etc. Bladed tools, rapidly after contact. The advent of metal carving tools is often cited as a major advance for aiding the overall production of Northwest Coast carving, especially of totem poles.

Collected by Barnabas Courtland Freeman between 1893 and 1903.

Physical description
Carving knife with a wooden handle and a double edged, triangular shaped, metal blade, bound together with cedar bark. The blade has a wide base, a concaved tip and is inserted into a carved groove in the handle. The handle is a flattened cylindrical shape, slightly concaved and is covered with a lacquer.
