Narrative

Sculpture unsigned; photographs were sent to the West Baffin Island Co-op in 1998, who attributed the work to Joanassie Igiu. Said to have been a gift to Audrey Hawthorn from Walter C. Koerner.

Physical description

Stone carving of a bird (hawk) perched with head extended forward. Sculpture leans heavily to one side. Minimal carved detail. Talons, tail feathers, eyes and wing outlines are the only carved lines. Stone surface is smooth overall, except around carved lines and on underside of sculpture. Stone is largely green-brown in colour with veins of dark green and black running through it.
