History of use

This belt was worn on the women's costume around the top of the skirt, but under the over-blouse. It is wrapped around the waist and tucked into itself.

Narrative

Handwoven by a woman named Pertolina Canto, from Huaras. Said it took her one day to make the belt.

Physical description

Hand-woven, long, rectagular belt with a central repeating striped patterned of dark blue and beige chevrons with red and beige vertical stripes. Each side is bordered with a beige strip. The end sections are loose creating a threaded fringe.
