Narrative

The tradition of regionally distinctive dress is still a feature of some of the remote villages of highland Peru. The costumes are a mixture of Spanish influence with surviving indigenous aspects and materials.

Physical description

Jacket, girl's, made of dark blue wool with red and green applique. There are green edges on the pockets, cuffs, and front edges. A band of red applique is attachee parallel to the green. Diamond-shaped elbow patches are sewn to the jacket at the corners. The jacket is embroidered over the red and green applique, on the front, on the pockets, on the cuffs and on the diamond patches in light blue, white, yellow, and green cotton thread.
