Sash

It is said by the Ladakhis that the asti tsazar is worn only for special occasions, but the collector saw what appeared to be the same type of sashes worn daily. In traditional dances, the men proceed in queues, describing circles in stately controlled steps with their asti tsazars held before them in their extended right hands. A potpourri of paraphernalia can be carried in the the man's sash. Some items have become obsolete but are still kept tucked inside.

Hand-woven cotton sash made of 3 pieces of fabric sewn together lengthwise. Purple outer borders with two narrow parallel stripes in black. Inner piece is natural in colour with purple and black stripes near edges. Decorated at the ends with multi-strand cotton in a chain-like furcate stitch across the piece.
