Basket

Brown birch bark basket with an oval-shaped top and a square bottom. Bark is bent and laced into place, with a split twig around the rim overcast with cedar root. Linear and geometric patterns are scratched onto the basket's sides, revealing a lighter shade of bark. Designs on side 1: upper border has a diamond mesh; floral pattern on all of the lower portion. Designs on side 2: mainly stripes bordering a "z" shape. Base has 2 rows of diamonds flanking a stripe. Two rawhide thongs are threaded underneath the rim of the basket, creating two loop handles; strung from these handles is an old tag with identifying information about the basket.
