Tigua Painting

Physical description

Tigua painting with a decoratively painted frame. The interior, front and exterior of the frame are painted white. On the front of the frame, there are orange, yellow and blue designs over the white background. The orange and yellow are painted in a scalloped design which sandwiches a blue circular motif formed by small dots. The canvas itself is formed by piece of skin stretched and nailed to the back of a wooden frame. The sky is in the background of the image, painted with various shades of blue and white. The sun, which is yellow and has a face, rests in the sky near the centre of the image. There are black birds flying in the sky. Against the horizon, there are four green mountains; one of them is snow-capped. Three black birds perch on the mountains in various places. There are rows of fields on low hills in front of the mountains. A purple-grey path curves through the field from the front right side of the image to the middle and then switches back to the right in the distance. A woman walks in the fields toward the right side of the painting. She is behind a hill so that only her upper torso is visible. Closer to the foreground, a man walks on the path through the fields. He walks toward the left side of the image and is carrying a walking stick. In front of the fields, there is a patch of light brown dirt. On the right side, atop the dirt patch, there is a small blue hut with a brown thatched roof and wall. The entry wall of the hut is blue and has a gold framed doorway. Two trees grow in the foreground in front of the hut. One of them is yellow and green and has a longer trunk and the other is a low bush with white flowers. A couple stands left of the hut. The woman is barefoot and the man is not. The woman holds a gold harness that is bridled to a plump brown horse. The horse has a purple-grey bundle tied to its back with gold and black cord. In the foreground, between the couple and the horse, there is a green bush with white and pink flowers. A smaller bush is in the foreground in front of the horse’s torso. It has pink flowers. Across the bottom edge of the painting, there is a solid green-blue band of paint. The title of the work and the name of the artist are written in white paint on the green-blue band. On the back of the object there is a small sticker with a price written on it in blue pen. There is also a piece of red string for hanging, nailed to the right and left sides and draped over the back of the work.
