History of use
This would have been used for storing and pouring liquids. It is White Painted II Ware from the Cypro-Geometric II.
Physical description
Bird-shaped askos made of fairly coarse-grained grey clay with dark impurities and a small amount of mica. Hard-fired. Black and red, thin, matte paint on a cream slip. Tubular, upright spout, basket handle attached to spout and upper part of body. Small projections on either side of body indicate wings. Eyes and beak highlighted with paint. On either side of the body there are broad bands of red paint and narrow parallel black lines.
