Rattle
Physical description
Clay rattle in the form of a standing woman. Rattle has an oblong, bulbous body with two legs capable of holding the figure upright. A small hole is bored between the legs into the rattle’s hollow cavity. The face has a thick mouth, large nose, and circular, incised eyes. Clay hair falls to the figure’s shoulders and a hole is bored on either side in the ear area. Below small pointed breasts is a thick belt that wraps around the waist, holding a baby to her back. The child’s arms wrap around the mother’s shoulders, where her uplifted hands grasp his. The baby’s tiny clay feet are visible just below the belt. When moved, the object makes a soft rattling sound.
