About this object

History of use

The skein of yarn is hung around one forearm and the drop spindle is turned and suspended from the other hand. The turning of the spindle twists together two yarns that plies the yarn.

Narrative

Bought from Santosa Huaman Pomayri, a woman from Chinchero on a street in Cuzco, on May 3, 1982. It was made for her own use.

Physical description

Wooden spindle with double stranded brown wool partially plied and wound on spindle. Straight stick with truncated cone of wood near one end.
