Narrative

Collected by Mr. Cesnola. Part of a collection made in Cyprus in 1873 and presented to the Metropolitan Museum for the 1875 opening.

Physical description

Small buff coloured dish with two small handles and circular designs. The dish is made with finely grained and soft clay, full of small white limestone particles and dark grits. The base is flat with sides curving outwards to the rim. There are two small horizontal handles attached to the sides. There designs are painted with a dark brown, thin, matte paint. Interior decoration consists of concentric bands of varying width on the interior and a band around the rim. Exterior designs include concentric bands around the lower body and a Maltese Cross on the bottom of the dish.
