xisiwe' (Headdress)

Used in Walasaxa dance.

Represents wolf: atlhanam. also called dLugwala; receiving a treasure.

Wooden wolf headdress, or mask, with an elongated snout, prominent nostrils, bared teeth and fangs, and rounded ears at the top of the head. The mask is painted black with green around the eyes, red nostrils and lips, white teeth and a white design at the top of the snout. A frame made from bent twigs and green cord are attached at the reverse.
