Photo mechanical transfers were part of the printing process in the 1960s whereby an original artwork was photographed by special cameras to produce a high-contrast positive paper photograph, often on a reduced scale from the original.

Physical description

Black and white image depicting a scene of four Haida males in a canoe greeting a European male in a tall ship. Front Haida male, wearing traditional chiefly regalia, is standing and holding out a talking stick to the European male. The three other Haida males are seated in the canoe with paddles. The European male is wearing a black steeple hat and is holding an offering in his hand to exchange with the standing Haida male. Signed and dated "Bill Reid - '65".
