Blouse

The tradition of regionally distinctive dress is still a feature of some of the remote villages of highland Peru. The costumes are a mixture of Spanish influence with surviving indigenous aspects and materials. The blouse is usually worn in conjunction with two to four skirts. It is worn exposing four or five inches of the white cotton band at the top of the skirt.

Purchased June 25, 1978 in the Huaras Indian market from Emma Morales.

Red blouse with wide collar, long cuffed sleeves and centre opening. The green collar has yellow scalloped trim and white lace around the edges. The upturned green cuffs have yellow trim. There is a green band with yellow trim around the waist. On the lower front right is a pocket with a green top and yellow trim. The inner lining is natural cotton on the upper half.
