Basketry Tea Cup

The design on this tea cup is called cluster of flies.

According to Sto:lo basket maker Wendy Ritchie fine coiled work like this would be done using a bone rather than a metal awl.

Coiled cedar root cup, part (a), and saucer, part (b) with bifurcated stitches and watch-spring construction. Imbricated cross design in black cherry bark, two alternating rows on cup, one row on saucer. Cup has coiled handle.
