About this object

Narrative

The print is called Tsuri gitsune (釣狐) from the series Kyōgen Gojūban (狂言五十番; Fifty Kyōgen plays), which had been started by Tsukioka Kōgyo (月岡耕漁), and completed by his artist daughter Tsukioka Kōbun/Gyokusei (月岡江文/玉瀞; 1908–1994; see print 795/19), and published in 1927 by Daikokuya (大黒屋). The print is signed 耕漁 (Kōgyo).

Physical description

Print showing a male figure wearing clothing that is purple and black. The man is facing to the left side standing over a sword(?) that has light blue coils around it. The background is shaded in brown-black. In the upper right corner are two black Japanese characters. In the lower right corner is a vertically rectangular, red seal with a black character above it and a brown fan-shaped seal next to it. The print is horizontally rectangular.
