Narrative

The donor lists the frontlet as having been made at the 'Ksan school in 1979. The artist's affiliation is unknown, but the style of the work appears to be Gitxsan.

Physical description

Carved beaver frontlet with abalone inlays. Beaver sits with feet pointed inward, red incised tail covering the belly, forelegs and knees, its paws are gripping a stick. The animal's mouth is open, showing two rows of abalone teeth behind wooden incisors and red painted lips. The eyes are circles of abalone, under arched black brows and carved and painted ears. Along either side of the figure are two panels painted red, holding five rectangles of inset abalone. Two small holes are bored into each panel. The rear of the frontlet is concave.
