About this object
Narrative
Burnett described this sculptural head in his catalogue list as: "Buddha stone head, from Bayou Temple. About 1200 years old. Anghor Thom, Cambodia". Presumably this is a fragment from a wall relief, from the Bayon, a Khmer Buddhist temple at Angkor. The temple is said to have been built in the late 12th or early 13th century, with later modifications and additions.
Physical description
Sculptured stone head in the form of a meditating Buddha, carved in typical Khmer style.
