mate burilado (Decorated Gourd)

Gourd finely engraved with great detail. The scene on one side of the gourd shows a nativity scene. Animals, shepherds, and men with crowns surround a child and two parents, each with a halo. The other side of the gourd shows a busy marketplace. People, animals, textiles, food and homes are depicted. The people are engaged in activities from tilling fields to preparing food. The top of the gourd shows several different plants and animals. The bottom of the gourd is plain except for the maker's name engraved and the work's number (145) written in pencil.
