Mask

Folk art; made for sale at local shops and markets.

Marquez-style mask. The style of this type of mask would have been influenced by pictures of classical Greek sculpture in books or magazines, even though the males are actually meant to represent Spaniards.

Mask of a large male head with full beard. Face is red, eyes are dark green and off-white. Purple-brown beard and curls around forehead are shaped as stylized ringlets; moustache is curled at ends. Male is wearing a brown-bronze, dome-shaped helmet with a gold coloured flat rim, decorated with black lines and circles. Base of mask is made of wood, while face and helmet appear to be made from plaster.
