Kachina Figure
Physical description
Bear Kachina doll. The standing figure has white fur covering the head, with painted red ears, red paint eyes, and a protruding wooden snout. The snout is covered with a flap of fur and contains four wooden canine teeth and a long, lolling red felt tongue. On top of the head is a small feather decoration. The body is in human form, with a long yellow tail hanging down the back. The figure is clothed in a leather skirt belted at the waist with a painted canvas panel hanging down on the left. Two leather straps decorated with small shells cross over the chest and brown boots with leather fringe cover the feet. The figure carries a small bow in its left hand and a blue rattle in the right. The figure’s torso and lower legs are decoratively painted with spots, stripes and swirls. The figure stands on a small, round wood base.
