Narrative

Collected by Inglis from the maker in Dirang in 2014. Documentation in the file includes photographs of the loom, the family, the weaver, the village and neighbours wearing similar outfits.

Physical description

Long sleeved shirt made of unbleached cotton. Sleeve cuffs are lined on the interior with dark blue silk. Front is open, with a short, standing collar. Three closely stitched lines the same colour as the fabric sit close together at the bottom. Fringe hangs from the unhemmed bottom of the shirt’s torso. Side slits are lined with bright red fabric.
