Rosita Tovell's father was a collector of Peruvian pre-Columbian ceramics. Rosita moved to Peru in the early 1960s, while her husband served as ambassador to Peru and Bolivia. During this time Rosita began to study and collect pre-Columbian Peruvian ceramics and textiles.

Physical description

Rectangular cloth is constructed in a tight weave, with thin alternating stripes of light and dark brown. Each dark brown stripe holds a series of stitched, evenly spaced yellow motifs, while the light brown stripes carry similar red motifs. A thin stripe of red cloth has been sewn to base. Textile’s edges have not been finished.
