lungi (Skirt)

This type of body cloth is a popular and common form of wearing apparel among Nepali women. It is worn as a skirt (lungi) wrapped and tucked about the body. Altough the traditional lungi would have been made of hand-woven material, commercial cloth lungis like this one, are now very accessible and popular. The border pattern shows how traditional tribal designs have been adapted to contemporary needs (collector's notes).

Black cotton skirt with bold printed border floral-like design in various tones of yellow, orange and light brown. Material is sewn together to form a tubular shape but has no other finishing than the three machine-stitched seams. Along the edge in blue is the bears commercial stamp 'Burmese Style A-Fents' and map of India motif.
