Memorial Totem Pole

About this object

Narrative

Carved at the University of British Columbia for display at Totem Park in 1960-61. The entire Haida House complex was moved to the grounds outside the new Museum of Anthropology building in c. 1975. This pole is based on the beaver pole standing at the north end of Skidegate. The raven figure was removed from the top of the pole in 2005 due to its poor condition and safety concerns.

Physical description

Memorial pole with the following figures (top to bottom): raven, segmented chief's hat, beaver with bear cub between ears and human face on tail. (Carved raven removed from top in 2005 due to instability.)
