pollera (Skirt)

Worn with several other skirts, and possibly as an underskirt for fiesta dress. The tradition of regionally distinctive dress is still a feature of some of the remote villages of highland Peru. The costumes are a mixture of Spanish influence with surviving indigenous aspects and materials.

everyday women's wear

Skirt sewn from purple woven wool fabric and gathered at the waist with a narrow blue waistband which ties on both sides at side slits. A narrow band of scroll patterned light purple embroidery runs horizontally around the middle and the hem is embroidered with a stylized flower and zigzag design formed by circles. A blue band at the hem is embroidered with a repeated dot design. The reverse of the hem is reinforced with off-white cotton facing. Two horizontal pleats are sewn into the lower half of the skirt.
